***UPDATE***

What in the world is going on with our kids??? The following all occured in the past week, heck few days really:

School shooter kills 9

Bemidji, Minn. - A high school student went on a shooting rampage on an Indian reservation Monday, killing his grandparents at their home and then seven people at his school, grinning and waving as he fired, authorities and witnesses said. The suspect apparently killed himself after exchanging gunfire with police.

It was the nation’s worst school shooting since the Columbine High School massacre in Jefferson County in 1999, when 15 died, including the two gunmen.

Teen’s kill list: Start with mom

White Lake Township, Mich. - His mother’s name was at the top of his kill list.

After that, he named students, teachers, administrators and two police officers. A 10th name was scratched out. It didn’t stop there: He had another list he labeled “maybe,” and it had four classmates on it — three boys and one girl.

School “kill list” was a hoax (this one was at my little brothers school and the school we had discussed switching HardCore to)

Aurora, Colo. - A 13-year-old African-American boy who was trying to “fit in” confessed to a hoax that prompted parents to pull their kids out of Laredo Middle School on Wednesday, officials said.

The boy, a Laredo seventh-grader, created two “kill lists,” discovered Tuesday, that included a racial slur and threatened harm to roughly a dozen black students, police said. The suspect included his own name, said Kathleen Walsh, spokeswoman for Aurora police.

WTF???? What are we doing wrong as parents? As a community? As a society?

What happened to the cry, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Are these kids missing some sort of love or nurturing? Are the parental figures missing tell-tale signs? Or will we just never be able to see this type of thing coming?

I don’t have the answers, I have far more questions than I can type right now. But I want to know, need to know, what are the schools doing to protect my kids from this? What is my community doing to protect my kids?

More importantly, what am I going to do protect my kids? I can’t shield them from the harsh realities of life forever, but I can do something to try to at least alleviate some of the fears that I have and my kids have.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? Help me out here…I will take all the help I can get on this one.

Blockbuster Movie Pass Opens My Eyes

Ξ March 21st, 2005 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Diary of a Mad Woman |

So last month, before the birthday weekend in Estes Park, I went over to Blockbuster and signed up for the Movie Pass. It was cheaper than trying to rent 3 movies for a weekend so why not right?

Well over the past month I have been renting movies like mad…movies that I would have NEVER rented or watched without the pass. I found a few gems, at least in T-Square land:

  1. White Chicks - Stupid as hell, but so funny I had to watch it twice.
  2. Cellular - Pretty cool movie if you get past the fact that most normal folks can’t put a busted up phone back together, let alone get it to work and make a call.
  3. Lil Pimp - Adult cartoon with Bernie Mac, Ludacris, Lil Kim and William Shatner! Yes, William “TJ Hooker” Shatner. Lil Pimp is a trip!
  4. Dodgeball - Yeah, I remember dodgeball in school…we had a lethal team of assassins. To the point that there were 4 of us not allowed to all be on the same team. And Steve the Pirate is my new idol! Rrrrrr.

But my ultimate favorite of the bunch:
Finding Nemo - Watched this Friday night with The Princess. She liked it and was really in to it. I liked it and was really in to it. Great movie, great animation, great story…just a GREAT movie!

Simple, basic stuff, but its something. Here’s what it looks like:

Ξ March 14th, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Diary of a Mad Woman |

Here are THE RULES: You have to come up with twelve thoughts and one picture (totaling 13) to describe your weekend. Try using quotes, events, links to blog entries and websites, etc.

Dining with LBJ

  1. I had dinner with LBJ - the littlest president
  2. And my great friends Bob, Lara, Totsy and Carmen…And C was in attendance as well
  3. Reminiscing with old friends is always a good time
  4. LBJ got a little wild though…getting in womens crotches and stuff
  5. And then getting his drink on

  9. Other than that the weekend was spent relaxing…

Well I finally got a few free minutes to upgrade the WordPress software to the latest version…and it is pretty dang slick!

As you can see I have also changed the look…again. I like this very much, rather subtle and a little softer.

Kind of like the new and improved T-Square ;)

Check it out, tell me what ya think…

Finally Got My SideKick II…Update

SKII What a difference a few days make

After a bunch of hassle and other rig-a-ma-roll I finally got my SKII activated and online. Its working great! Web browsing is much faster than I thought it would be and the ability to check my e-mail or use AIM at any time is a wonderful thing.

And in the first day of using it I already got to utilize it for what I intended…was sitting at Big Dawg Z’s baseball practice and remembered I had to send an e-mail to a client…instead of having to run all the way home I was able to fire off my e-mail while sitting in the bleachers. You gotta love that!

Best of all, after that long outage that lasted nearly a week…I received an e-mail from T-Mobile and Danger apologizing for the outage and hassles and notifying me that I would be receiving a $20 credit on next month’s bill. This will be on top of my already credited $10 from the last two days.

Sweet!

How Many Times In One Day…

Ξ March 11th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ The Romper Room |

Can a 2-year-old watch “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie”?

The Princess can do about 5-6 times a day if ya let her. To the point that she can act out just about every scence from the movie, including dialouge.

Maybe this DVD player in my room was not the best idea…

Finally Got My SideKick II

SideKick Chick Brilliant! I finally get off my duff and go pick up my SideKick II…only to find that the folks who make it and run the servers for it, Danger, are suffering an outage like no other!

Had the damn thing since Monday afternoon and I still can’t connect to get it activated

I am so close to taking it back and getting my $$$ back it’s not funny. I mean damn…I see the value of it and the usefullness of it for me, but as of now its nothing more than a really expensive paperweight.

But in my search for info on the outage I did discover something that I had missed…the SKII is HUGE in the deaf/hard of hearing community. In reading the posts from deaf/hoh users I have come to a much better appreciation of the device (when it works). These folks are doing things with the SKII that I would have never really thought of.

Hopefully the service will come back up before I make the decision to go get my money back…I can really see the potential for this thing.

Who Didn’t See This Coming…

Ξ March 4th, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ It's Just News...Right? |

Kobe So Kobe Bryant and his accuser settled the civil lawsuit against him for an undisclosed amount.

Well DUH!!!! Who didn’t see that coming?

As soon as the criminal charges were dropped against Kobe anyone with two brain cells knew that the details of that fateful night in Eagle, Co. would be forever kept a secret.

Great, I’m cool with that. I am just hoping that this means that Kobe can go back to playing hoops. Ok, go back to playing hoops without the thoughts of a trial in the back of his mind. Maybe instead of 30-40 points night he can drop in 50.

I am hoping that the young lady in this can go on and raise her unborn child and enjoy her new marriage.

And I am hoping I don’t have to hear about, report about or deal with this story anymore!
