The 101/1001

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Start Date: 02.03.05
Deadline: 10.31.07
Tasks Completed: 3

74. Wear a dress (this will hurt)

Well, I can say without doubt that I thought this would be the last thing I completed on this list, but the love I have for my Cousin Jamaal pushed this to the forefront.

Jamaal lived with me for the summer for an internship and he asked me to accompany him to the end of summer reception. I was all set to wear some dockers and a nice shirt when he dropped the boom on me that it was like semi-formal and stuff. Nice.

Whatever…I did what I had to do:

I quit my job

Ξ August 8th, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Diary of a Mad Woman |

So last week I decided the time had come to quit my job.

While I know that I am a journalist tried and true…the fact that most non-writing journo thugettes (Love ya Trent!) work the night shift sucks.

For the last 8 months I have worked nights, 8pm to 5am, and it has reeked havoc on EVERY aspect of my life.

I really liked my job, a lot, but the fact that the lack of sleep has left me tired, sick and not really a nice person to be around alot caused me to make the decision.

The fact that I became hooked on energy drinks was probably the biggest indicator that I needed to change. Some people would drink them for a little kick, I drank them multiple times a day just to stay awake and function. Bad T-Square, very bad!

I will always be a newshound though, I think its in my blood or something, but working for a newspaper is an event whose time has come and gone.

I look back on all my years spent at the different newspapers in my life and only have good thoughts. From the work I did to the people I worked with I have been blessed with great work environments and great friends.

I guess I will be going back to M-F daylight hour gig of dealing with the IT concerns of a growing e-communications company.

I look forward to the challenges that this move brings and the opportunity to work with some folks who, whether they want to admit it or not, are just as crazy as I am!

Hmmm…and maybe I will actually have a bit more time to drop some notes on the old bloggy blog.

Yet another month passes…

Ξ August 2nd, 2005 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Diary of a Mad Woman |

***SIGH***

I just can’t seem to find any time for blogging these days.

But this past month has been a productive one:

1) Sold the Waggy. One less car out in front of the house and money in my pocket.
2) Took a good chunk of money out of my pocket and paid off a big chunk of debt. Direct correlation to No. 1.
3) Am on the verge of closing on my house (YES!!!). Direct correlation to No. 2.
4) The search for the Excursion is on fire (have it narrowed down to about 4). Can hopefully happen after No. 3.

So there goes the update.

But check it out, there is some actual substance for this one…

I am sitting here watching Allen Iverson on “Quite Frankly with Stephen A. Smith” and I have to say that my views and attitude toward A.I. have been changed. Smith is a no holds barred kind of guy so he has pressed A.I. on just about every bit of controversy that has dogged his career. And A.I. has answered every question with honest and frankness that I have never heard from him.

Smith played a clip of Larry Brown talking about what he thought of A.I. and it nearly brought him to tears. Showed a truly human side of a man who so many have demonized for his perceived actions.

Very cool, may have to watch this show more often.
